It took a little while to read each step of the instruction manual and complete each step. This has exceeded our family's home theater expectations.
Great product. I purchased based on on-line reviews and recommended by a friend.
The auto calibration made a big improvement to the listening quality. This receiver also allows us to utilize multiple zones, which is a great feature for other music listening areas of our home.
First receiver I have ever purchased and installed. But it was very easy to complete.
I had a dedicated 20 amp electrical outlet installed to make sure the receiver had plenty of power.
I am currently only running a 5.0 system, but this unit will handle much, much more. I have mine connected to a 50" plasma TV and a Yamaha upconverting DVD player. This arrangement has more bass than any subwoofer would produce in my opinion. I am very pleased with the sound, ease of use, and many, many features. I have been running it very hard for about two weeks without any troubles at all. The speakers I chose for my system are two Cerwin-Vega CLS-215 for the front channel, a Klipsch center channel, and two JBL towers for the rear channel.
All in all, a very powerful unit with loads of features. I looked and researched many A/V receivers before deciding on this one. This unit is well worth the price paid, I would recommend to anyone looking for a powerhouse A/V controller. I haven't the need for more at this point, as the Cerwin-Vega speakers I use have two 15" woofers in each cabinet.
It's my understanding 1.3 is quite a difference in quality for 1080p Televisions. I'm researching so I don't own. Probably not as noticeable on 1080i
I'd buy it again in a second. This connectivity, though, is the source of a few of my issues with the receiver. Every time, I look at competitors' products, but I always come back to Yamaha for the sound quality and versatility. As with all of my previous Yamahas, this receiver is almost perfect, with just a few minor issues.Sound quality is outstanding, with crisp highs and clear lows (I have Klipsch floor speakers and rear and center channel, no subwoofer). I can also listen to hundreds of channels of internet radio. I would love to see more effort put into this interface, because with a little work it could be really useful. My last issue is with the remotes (also a perennial Yamaha problem). It is somewhat cryptic and counterintuitive, and it doesn't have some of the advanced features of some of the newer multifunction remotes. Bass is slightly weak (as I have found on other Yamahas), but not terribly so.Connectivity is also outstanding, with a multitude of connections, including HDMI, digital audio (optical and RCA) and composite and RGB inputs. I have my entire CD collection on my PC, and I can play any of this through the built-in interface on the receiver.
It took a little work (and manual entry of an IP address) to get it working. The receiver also includes a remote for "Zone 2", but because it is IR instead of RF, it doesn't do you any good if Zone 2 is in a different room. That said, I would definitely recommend that this receiver be at the top of your shopping list if you're looking for a good-sounding, versatile and cost-effective AV receiver. I have owned Yamaha receivers for 20 years, and this is my fourth. The 1080 uplift on the video output (to a 52" Samsung LCD) is excellent, and regular DVDs look clear and crisp. One of the primary reasons I chose this receiver was for its ability to connect (via Ethernet) to my home PC network. Those without PC technical experience might have trouble getting it working. In addition, the user interface for the PC and internet connectivity is very rudimentary, and it can be difficult to get to the music you want (no page down feature, for example).
JUST received this receiver yesterday kind of a bugger to set up.but let it be known DO NOT USE YPAO MICROPHONE.it sucks it did more harm than good. it did well setting speaker distance and wiring.but everything else it messed up my subwoofer settings and rear channels and main had wrong sizes for speakers just use manual setup and set it to your liking.but now that i did everything manually this receiver has brutal power and clarity.it will take your breath away on movie soundtracks.music is also killer.
